Practicing surgery for over 30 years, my priority is to deliver high-quality, compassionate, and accessible care to all.
To date, I have performed more than 10,000 gastrointestinal operations, the most common of which include:
- Inguinal and umbilical hernia surgery: Around 200 patients are referred to me each year through their physicians and, above all, by word of mouth.
- Hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and fistulas: Patients are frequently referred by gastroenterologist colleagues with whom I collaborate closely to provide the most appropriate medical or surgical treatment.
- Gallbladder: As a specialist in hepatobiliary surgery with nearly 2,000 cholecystectomies performed, I carry out these procedures on a routine basis, including complex cases.
- Colorectal surgery: Having served as a member of the colorectal scientific advisory board of the Royal Belgian Society of Surgery and as one of the initiators of the PROCARE study on rectal cancer, I have a specialized focus on conditions affecting this organ and have authored scientific publications on tumors and inflammatory conditions (diverticulitis).
- Gastroesophageal reflux (GERD): While primarily managed medically, gastroenterology colleagues regularly refer surgical candidates to me for an opinion. I only recommend surgery to patients who I believe will derive a significant benefit from the procedure.
- Bariatric surgery (obesity surgery): Despite the recent development of medical treatments (such as Ozempic and Mounjaro), surgical demand remains high. Just as with reflux surgery, the surgeon’s key role is rigorous patient selection, balancing short- and long-term risks against the benefits of sustained weight loss. In this regard, I ensure patients receive objective, thorough, and clear information prior to any potential intervention.
